01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Grilled over charcoal to order, skewers are the natural centerpiece at Hakkenden, located near a residential area north of Musashi-Seki Station. A crisp, fragrant yakitori assortment anchors the selection alongside rich beef tongue skewers and organ meats like kokoro (heart) and kimo (liver). Savoring these piping-hot skewers alongside a large mug of Otoko-mae draft beer or a highball captures the uncomplicated appeal of an authentic izakaya.

Beyond the grill, the kitchen prepares a broad range of standalone dishes. Crispy fried oysters and aji fry sit alongside Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and tonpeiyaki pork omelets crafted by the Hiroshima-born chef. Paired with a refreshing Ultimate Lemon Sour or chosen from the daily specials board, the food allows diners to tailor their meal to the mood of the evening.

The dining room includes counter seating for solo visitors, conventional tables, and sunken kotatsu seating toward the back that easily handles small gatherings. Closed on Mondays, the restaurant stays open until 1:00 the following morning, making it a reliable destination for a late-night supper or a lingering nightcap.
